For the fifth year in a row, EU-turn was delighted to make its creative skills available to the EESC for the organisation of its Open Days. The Open Days took place on Saturday 8 May, the day before the Festival of Europe. The United Nations made 2010 its ‘International Year of Biodiversity’ and the EESC decided to follow suit by making biodiversity the main theme of its event.
As we do every year, our agency developed the Open Day’s logo, which appeared on all the communications material (posters, programmes, postcards and signage). The logo is totally different from the logos of other institutions, is particularly refreshing, colourful and dynamic. It also went down very well with visitors.
We also created an explorer’s pathway in the EESC to raise visitors’ awareness about the importance of biodiversity. Both entertaining and educational, the pathway took visitors through three closed areas with different themes about a species that is under threat of extinction: polar bears, bees and white sharks. At each stage, participants came across activities, be that worker bees in their hives or a shark’s jaw, and found out information that enabled them to fill in their explorer’s passport.
For the 2010 event, EU-turn also developed a ‘Video box’, a mini recording studio where visitors were invited to say what they thought of the event and put questions to EESC members.
As in previous years, we organised fun, family activities such as quizzes and walking across rope bridges as well as making make-up facilities and photo booths available.
As a result, more than 4,000 people were able to find out about what the EESC does and to actively take part in the day.
